Uganda and Rwanda are year-round destinations, but your experience may vary depending on the season.

  • Peak Season (June – September, December – February):
    Best for gorilla trekking and safaris. The forests are drier, making treks easier, and wildlife is easier to spot around water sources.
  • Low Season (March – May, October – November):
    Lush

  • 👉 Tip: Gorilla permits are limited to a few per day—book at least 3–6 months in advance.

  • Comfortable, broken-in hiking boots
  • Lightweight, long-sleeved shirts & trousers (for protection from nettles and insects)
  • Rain jacket/poncho (the rainforest is always unpredictable)
  • Gardening or trekking gloves (to hold onto branches)
  • Daypack wit

  • Gorilla Permits: Required to trek in Uganda or Rwanda.

    • Uganda: USD 800 (per person)
    • Rwanda: USD 1,500 (per person)
  • Chimpanzee Permits: Required in Kibale and Nyungwe forests.
  • Park Entry Fees: Vary per park and are included in your safari package.

  • Uganda: Tourist visa (USD 50) can be applied online or on arrival.
  • Rwanda: Tourist visa (USD 50) or East Africa Tourist Visa (USD 100, valid in Uganda, Rwanda & Kenya).
  • Passport: Must be valid for at least 6 months from entry date, with 2 blank pages.

👉 We recommend the East Africa Tourist Visa for travelers visiting both Uganda and Rwanda.

    • Yellow Fever (mandatory for Uganda)
    • Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus (recommended)
