"YOUR GATEWAY TO AFRICA'S GORILLA KINGDOM."

Gorilla Trekking Adventures – A Once-in-a-Lifetime Journey

What is Gorilla Trekking?

Gorilla trekking is one of the most extraordinary wildlife encounters on Earth. It takes you deep into the mist-covered jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Uganda) and Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda), where the last remaining mountain gorillas live in the wild. Accompanied by expert guides and trackers, you hike through thick rainforest until you come face-to-face with a gorilla family in their natural habitat.

Imagine watching a massive silverback calmly feeding, playful juveniles tumbling through the trees, and mothers tenderly cradling their infants—just a few meters away from you. This one-hour encounter is both humbling and transformative.

Where Can You Go Gorilla Trekking?

Uganda – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

  • A UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
  • Famous for its rich biodiversity—besides gorillas, you may see monkeys, colorful birds, and rare forest species.
  • Multiple trekking regions: Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Rushaga.

Rwanda – Volcanoes National Park

  • Easier treks compared to Uganda, with shorter hikes to find gorilla families.
  • Stunning scenery of the Virunga Volcanoes in the background.
  • Higher permit cost but known for its exclusivity and luxury options.

Gorilla Permits

A permit is required for every trek. They are limited to ensure the gorillas’ protection.

  • Uganda: USD 800 per person
  • Rwanda: USD 1,500 per person
  • Booking: We handle all the paperwork and reservations for you.

👉OTE:  Permits sell out months in advance—early booking is essential.

What to Expect on the Day

  • Briefing: Your trek begins with a safety and etiquette briefing at the park headquarters.
  • The Trek: Depending on where the gorillas are, hikes can range from 1–6 hours through steep, muddy terrain.
  • The Encounter: Once you find the gorilla family, you spend 1 full hour observing them at close range.
  • After the Trek: You receive a trekking certificate to mark your achievement.

What to Pack for Gorilla Trekking

  • Comfortable hiking boots with good grip
  • Long-sleeved shirts and trousers (protection from thorns & nettles)
  • Rain jacket/poncho (rain can fall anytime)
  • Insect repellent & sunscreen
  • Sturdy gloves (for holding onto vines and branches)
  • Reusable water bottle & snacks
  • Camera (no flash allowed)

Gorilla Trekking Rules (for Conservation & Safety)

  • Keep at least 7 meters (21 feet) away from the gorillas.
  • Do not touch the gorillas.
  • No flash photography.
  • Maximum 8 visitors per gorilla family per day.
  • If you’re sick (flu, cough, cold), you cannot trek—gorillas are highly vulnerable to human diseases.

 Gorilla Trekking for Every Traveler

  • Luxury Travelers: Private treks, helicopter/charter flights, and eco-lodges with panoramic views of the jungle.
  • Mid-Range Travelers: Comfortable lodges close to the parks, with guided treks and cultural add-ons.
  • Budget Travelers: Affordable guesthouses or tented camps, shared treks, and group safaris.
  • Backpackers: Camping options and group trekking departures to keep costs low.

Beyond Gorilla Trekking

Many travelers combine gorilla trekking with other adventures, such as:

  • Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale or Nyungwe Forest.
  • Big Five safaris in Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, or Akagera National Parks.
  • Cultural experiences with Batwa pygmies and local communities.
